Dr. Carrie Ciro, PhD, OTR/L, FAOTA, was named Chair of the Department of Rehabilitation Sciences, effective July 1, 2019. Dr. Ciro most recently served as Chairman of the Department of Occupational Therapy Education at the University of Kansas Medical Center. She earned her PhD from the University of Texas Medical Branch, an MHS from the University of Indianapolis, and a BS degree in Occupational Therapy from the College of Allied Health OUHSC. Dr. Ciro worked as an occupational therapist at a variety of hospitals and clinics in Oklahoma, including OUMI, before joining the faculty of the College of Allied Health OUHSC in 2000. She won College of Allied Health teaching, service and research awards while on our faculty. Dr. Ciro has received multiple grant awards to fund her research in the area of aging and dementia and has published significantly in peer-reviewed journals. Dr. Ciro brings tremendous experience and leadership qualities and we are excited to welcome her back to the College. She looks forward to engaging with clinicians, students and alumni as she builds a new vision for the Department of Rehabilitation Sciences.
