On August 13th, Dr. Carole Johnson and Dr. Christi Barbee and Doctor of Audiology students, Connor Sullivan and Jin Hyung Park, and undergraduate students, Kortney Bush and Jessica James, from the Hearing Evaluation, Rehabilitation, and Outcomes (HERO) Laboratory in the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders in the College of Allied Health conducted a hearing conservation workshop with all 358 members of the Pride of Oklahoma Marching Band using the Adopt-A-Band program. Band members were counseled on the dangers of music-induced hearing loss and fit with musicians' earplugs to use during practice and at football games where sound levels can reach dangerous levels after only a few minutes of exposure.
