Congratulations to 2021 Sonography graduates Carrie Brown and Laishen Her as awardees for the SDMS W. Frederick Sample Student Excellence Award, sponsored by the Journal of Diagnostic Medical Sonography!

Carrie Brown received first place for her paper titled: “The Role of Sonography in the Diagnosis and Treatment of Developmental Dysplasia of the Hip.”

Laishen received second place for her paper titled: “Comparison of Sonography, Computed Tomography, and Magnetic Resonance Imaging for Diagnosing Intracranial Hemorrhage in Infants.”

This win reflects the fifth consecutive year that the OU CAH Sonography program has won both first and second place in this competition, and the 12^th time since 2008 since an OUHSC sonography student has received an award in this prestigious national competition.  

The winners will be recognized at the 2021 Society of Diagnostic Medical Sonography annual conference awards banquet, to be held in Denver, CO later this fall. 

The W. Frederick Sample Student Excellence Award was established in memory of Dr. Frederick Sample to acknowledge outstanding achievement in the field of diagnostic medical sonography and to encourage students to submit original research and literature review papers for publication in the Journal of Diagnostic Medical Sonography (JDMS).
