The Key to Advancing Your Physical Therapy Practice

Presented By:  Phil Plisky, PT, DSc, OCS, ATC, CSCS is an Associate Professor of Physical Therapy and Sports Residency Program Director at the University of Evansville and ProRehab, PC, where he also practices as a physical therapist.

Imagine that you have a patient who comes to you without pain, injury, or disability. What would you do? What would you include in your physical examination? The APTA vision statement, “Transforming society by optimizing movement to improve the human experience,” provides an excellent description of our practice as physical therapists. But how do we know that we have optimized movement for our patients? While our pediatric physical examination includes movement milestones, our adult orthopaedic examination typically focuses on parts (joint range of motion, strength, and special tests) instead of movement patterns. This presentation will explore how we, as movement experts, might advance our practice through a systematic approach to lifelong musculoskeletal health.
