Faculty Candidate Presentation: Matthew Masapollo, PhD
Presentation: Sensorimotor Control of Speech Movements

Dr. Matthew Masapollo is a speech-motor neuroscientist interested in how humans learn to talk, particularly in adolescents with congenital sensorimotor deficits. His research program addresses three interdependent aims:

  1. Determine how the human brain coordinates and controls speech movements;
  2. Determine how humans learn to produce coordinated speech movements early in development; and
  3. Determine the contributions of afferent sensory signals (auditory and somatosensory) to the control of coordinated speech movements.

Experimentally, he focuses on kinematic analyses of speech articulator movements and functional brain imaging of speech production
