OU Health Bachelor Degree Accelerator Program

OU Health and the College of Allied Health are partnering to establish an academic pathway that medical-imaging professionals, who work at OU Health, can advance their career with financial support from OU Health when they enroll in the Radiation Sciences Program at the College of Allied Health to earn their Bachelor Degree. Advanced education is an influencing factor in career, personal and professional satisfaction. Research demonstrates that the educational level of a healthcare worker improves patient care and leads to better health outcomes for patients.

The Radiation Sciences Program provides an online opportunity for working professionals to pursue career enhancement by obtaining a bachelor’s degree. The degree is a 100% online Bachelor of Science degree and does not contain a clinical component. It allows working professionals, who hold a credential in nuclear medicine, radiography, radiation therapy, or sonography to finish their bachelor’s degree in as little as 18 months.

The benefits of this program include:

• ability to take a class anywhere there is access to the internet;
• flexibility to fulfill work and family responsibilities while earning a degree; and
• college credit awarded for current credential, degree, and work experience.

The curriculum is designed to provide maximum flexibility to working adults in course completion. Students holding a credential in a medical imaging and radiation therapy profession, with prior work experience in the field, will be awarded up to 30 credit hours. 31 credit hours of coursework is given by the University of Oklahoma in a 100% online format.  

• Total Required Programmatic Course Credits = 31 hours
• Elective Courses are offered through OU-Norman and/or OU Health Campus 
• Additional credits that are awarded are based on prior credentialing, education, and experience = 30 hours 

Curriculum Notes 

* Student must take three of the four Principles courses that survey the professions outside their credential, including: radiography MIRS 3412, nuclear medicine MIRS 3432, radiation therapy MIRS 3452 and sonography MIRS 3802.

Criteria: OU Health Employees who meet the following criteria will be eligible for admission to the program:

• hold a professional credential in nuclear medicine, radiography, radiation therapy, or sonography including but not limited to RT(R), RT(N), CNMT, RT(T), RDMS, RDCS, RVT, ACS, RCCS, RCS, or RVS; and
• have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale for all previous college coursework.  

AND meet one of the following requirements:

• successfully completed a programmatically accredited program in nuclear medicine, radiography, radiation therapy, or sonography; or
• have one years of clinical work experience in a radiation sciences profession.

AND meet one of the following requirements:

• hold an associate degree (AS or AA) and completed the Prerequisite List (for students with Associate of Arts, Associate of Science, or Associate of Applied Science) with a minimum of 60 total credit hours.; or
• completed the list of Prerequisite List (for students with a Certificate) with a minimum of 60 credit hours of prerequisites.

*Applicants can finish their last two prerequisite courses after being admitted to the program.
