Dr. Carole E. Johnson is professor and chair of the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders, College of Allied Health. She currently conducts her research in the Hearing Evaluation, Rehabilitation and Outcomes Laboratory (HERO) in the Department of Communication Sciences at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center. Her research focuses on auditory (re)habilitation, specifically on the impact of audiologic interventions for sensorineural hearing loss on patient outcomes and health-related quality of life. A current focus is the impact of and factors affecting intervention and treatment adherence at the onset of SNHL, particularly for patients with mild and moderate losses. The laboratory is also exploring the relationships between working memory and speech recognition in reverberation and noise and the impact of hearing aids in reducing cognitive load in adverse listening conditions.
