Medical Imaging and Radiation Sciences

The Department of Medical Imaging and Radiation Sciences includes undergraduate and graduate programs focused in the art of medical imaging and radiation therapy. Our programs are programmatically accredited and recognized nationally through our outstanding faculty and educational curricula. This is an exciting time to work in these healthcare professions! Within our professions, we work with the most advanced and sophisticated equipment, using critical judgment to produce diagnostic images and ensure safe and effective therapeutic interventions. Our Department values its place within the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center where our students and faculty participate in interprofessional activities in preparation of the current healthcare environment. Students and graduates work with a diversity of physicians including radiologists, radiation oncologists, cardiologists, urologists, emergency medicine physicians, obstetricians/ gynecologists, and family practice physicians

Society of Diagnostic Medical Sonography W. Frederick Sample Student Excellence Paper Competition

2022 OUHSC Sonography Program Graduates Allie Duggar and Cameron Robison win first and second place in the Society of Diagnostic Medical Sonography W. Frederick Sample Student Excellence Paper Competition. 

Allie Duggar won first place for her literature review titled “Comparison of Computed Tomography, Magnetic Resonance Imaging, and Transesophageal Echocardiography in the Diagnosis of Acute Aortic Dissection.” 

Cameron Robison won second place for her literature review titled “Validity of Automated Left Ventricular Ejection Fraction Quantification in Echocardiography.”

This win is the sixth consecutive year that College of Allied Health Sonography Students have won first and second place in the competition and is the 13th time that an OUHSC sonography student has won an award in this competition since 2008.  

Both Ms. Duggar and Ms. Robison will be recognized at the 2022 Society of Diagnostic Medical Sonography annual conference awards banquet to be held in Atlanta, GA later this fall.  

The W. Frederick Sample Student Excellence Award was established in memory of Dr. Frederick Sample to acknowledge outstanding achievement in the field of diagnostic medical sonography and to encourage students to submit original research and literature review papers for publication in the Journal of Diagnostic Medical Sonography (JDMS). https://www.sdms.org/membership/join-sdms/awards-and-competitions/w-frederick-sample-student-excellence
