Transfer Equivalencies / Transcript Evaluation

Do not skip this page

Read ‘Step 1’, ‘Step 2’, and ‘Step 3’ thoroughly prior to proceeding.  Additionally, read ‘Coursework taken outside of the United States’ if applicable.

Thank you for your interest in the allied health programs at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center. Courses that are listed in the ‘Transfer Equivalencies Database’ will not be evaluated by our office because they have already been evaluated if they are listed in the database. As a prospective student, you are expected to utilize the database to see if the courses you have already completed are equivalent or not.  For prerequisites that you need to enroll in, you are expected to utilize the database to ensure that you enroll in the correct course number(s) to equate for our prerequisite(s).

Step 1

To begin the process to determine if your course(s) will transfer for prerequisites, please review the prerequisites required for the program you are interested in by visiting the academic program pages.  Download the prerequisite worksheet for the program of interest.

Step 2

All prospective students are required to complete a self-evaluation of their transcripts.  Most accredited colleges and universities in the United States are listed in the Transfer Equivalencies Database.

How to search for Non-University of Oklahoma equivalent courses:

  1. open our website with the prerequisites listed and keep it open in one window (or print it off)
  2. open another window and go to the Transfer Equivalencies Database to search for equivalent courses
  3. compare the prerequisite OU course number against the course number from the college/university you attended or plan on attending

*Note that it is recommended to complete the upper division general education prerequisite by taking an upper division non-western culture, understanding artistic forms, or western civilization and culture approved course.

How to search for University of Oklahoma non-western culture, understanding artistic forms, western civilization and culture class, and upper division general education courses

  1. Click here to find an equivalent course.

*Note that it is recommended to complete the upper division general education prerequisite by taking an upper division non-western culture, understanding artistic forms, or western civilization and culture approved course.

Recommended way to utilize/search the Transfer Equivalencies Database:

1. Click on the ‘Transfer Equivalencies Database’ link

2. You can utilize either or both of the two search methods
(Search by OU Course or Search by Other Institution Course):

A. How to best utilize the “Search by OU Course”:  search by the OU prerequisite course number that we have listed on our prerequisite list and select the “Subject” and “Course”.  Then click on “View Results by OU Course”.  Verify that the course is equivalent to our prerequisite for the required amount of hours.

B. How to best utilize the “Search by Other Institution Course” select the “State” and the “Transfer Institution”.  Then click on “View Results by Other Institution Course”.  This will give you a list of results for all the courses that have been evaluated from that college/university and what they are equivalent to.  Verify that the course is equivalent to our prerequisite for the required amount of hours.

3. If the course number from your institution shows up as equivalent for the OU course number of our prerequisite and the correct amount of required hours, then your course is acceptable.

Please Note:  For our Western Civilization and Culture, Non-Western Culture, and Understanding Art Forms prerequisites that do not show an OU course number on our prerequisite list, you will need to look in the “Gen. Ed.” column in the Transfer Equivalencies Database to see if the course you have taken or are considering taking is equivalent.

Upper Division General Education prerequisite:

It is recommended that you look for a 3000-4000 level course (upper level/division) that falls into the category of Western Civilization and Culture, Non-Western Culture, and Understanding Art Forms.

(i.e., an upper division western civilization and culture class would complete your upper division general education course and your western civilization and culture course with that one class)

Please note that upper level/division course numbers may vary with non-Oklahoma institutions so please check with the institution you are attending to see what course numbers are considered upper level/division at that institution.

Step 3

Once you have completed a self-evaluation of your transcripts, if you have specific questions, please follow these instructions:

  • fill out the prerequisite worksheet (listed under step #1 above); and

  • send an email to transcriptevaluation@ouhsc.edu telling us which program you are interested in and attach a completed prerequisite worksheet.  If you are questioning a courses equivalency that you have already taken, scan and email a copy of your transcript(s) from each institution attended as well.  If the course you plan to take is not listed in the Transfer Equivalencies Database, please include the course description as well as a course syllabus for the course you would like to take.

Please note that you must attach a copy of each institution's transcript in your email for us to complete an evaluation of courses already completed.  Taking this important step will ensure that you get a timely response. Thank you.

Coursework taken outside of the United States

If you have taken courses outside of the United States, you are required to have your foreign credentials/transcripts evaluated by World Education Services for any OUHSC College of Allied Health program that you would like to apply to.  Please note that if you have taken courses at a college/university in Puerto Rico, or if you have taken study abroad courses through your accredited US college/university, you do not need to conduct a WES evaluation.

If you have specific questions regarding foreign credentials:
Phone 405-271-2359 or Email
