National Albert Schweitzer Fellowship

Published: Wednesday, April 5, 2017

The Tulsa chapter of the National Albert Schweitzer Fellowship recently announced its 2017-2018 cohort and among them are two first year students from the Department of Rehabilitation Sciences, Kristen Faucett (occupational therapy) and MacGyver Norris (physical therapy). Kristen and MacGyver join the ranks of over 270 graduate students across the country who will be Schweitzer Fellows -  the aim of which is to build the skills necessary to lead efforts to address health inequities in their communities.  This year’s group is comprised of 14 Fellows from the University of Tulsa, Oklahoma State University, the University of Oklahoma, and Langston University.

As part of the year-long Fellowship, Kristen and MacGyver will be working with their faculty mentor Dr. Ken Randall and second-year student mentor Ryan Staebell to develop and implement a fitness and wellness program for children with leukemia, their families, and their best friends.

Kristen and MacGyver are following in the footsteps of occupational therapy students Meredith Wyatt and Paul Abbey, who were inducted as fellows last year and will be graduating from the program this year. Congratulations to all four of you for your community engagement achievements, now and in the future!
